Woodland Workshop for Small Landowners

The purpose of this workshop was to expose timberland owners to basic forestry concepts, and to make them aware of the value of standing timber based on volume per acre, species, tree quality, and marketing design. Participants understood that they would not be trained as foresters, and that it was still be recommended that they consult a professional forester before selling any timber.

Participating foresters took groups of participants into a pre-measured acre where they selected trees for cutting, measured volume of product and totaled the volume.A consultant forester spoke to the group during lunch after which the total volume and value of the timber on the acre was announced. A packet of free materials was available to all.
